Rochdale Creates - Teenage Markets

Calling all young and emerging makers, creators and performers in Rochdale!

Rochdale's First Teenage Market

Have you ever dreamed of turning your hobbies into cash? Maybe you’re already selling your creations and want to turn it into a business? Or do you love to perform? If this sounds like you, the Rochdale Teenage Market could be for you.

Open to young people from across Rochdale Borough to take part free of charge. Each market will include plenty of stalls for you to sell your work, food & drink stalls and a stage for you to perform your skills solo or as a group (music, dance, circus skills – you tell us what your special skills are!).

Taking place in the beautiful and recently reopened Rochdale Town Hall on Saturday 12th October 2024, 11am – 4pm.

On the lead up to the market we will offer plenty of support to all stallholders so you feel prepared. We will be hosting events with established sellers offering advice on subjects like how to effectively price your products and how to display your work beautifully to drive sales.

Who can get involved?

By young people, we mean anyone aged between 13 – 25 years old. Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be supervised by a carer or guardian.

We want to prioritise anyone from the Rochdale borough but if you live in Greater Manchester or the North West of England you can still apply.

The opportunity is open to all levels of experience. If you have never done a market before we will support you with how to set up a stall, and all the other logistics around becoming a market trader or performer.

What can I sell?

You can sell lots of different things at markets, but what is most popular are items which are unique, beautiful or useful. You do not have to have made all the products you sell on your stall, but products which have an element of being handcrafted, unique or personalised sell well. People like to buy things from markets which they can’t get from their usual high street shop, and they like to buy directly from the maker or seller.

It could be things people buy to decorate their home such as art, stationery, prints, plants, seasonal decorations, ceramics or homeware. It could be things people buy to wear such as clothing, shoes, hair accessories or jewellery – maybe even second-hand or vintage clothing.

It could also be tasty treats for consumers to eat and drink such as cakes, coffees, hot sauces and drinks. Maybe it’s something unique to Rochdale and Middleton that audiences recognise and that makes them feel proud about where they live. Or maybe it’s something people will purchase to do with friends and family, such as board games, comic books, craft sets or books.

But don’t let that list limit you – if you have products to sell get in touch and we can advise if we think it will work well in the market.

To enure we have all the necessary information to fairly evaluate your application, please include the following information in your application:

Photos of Your Products: Please upload clear images of the products you plan to sell.

Product Descriptions: Provide a detailed description of the products you will be selling.

Payment Methods: Will you be accepting cash only or both cash and card payments?
