Sunday 14 September:  12:00noon

Rochdale Development Agency will celebrate this year's Heritage Festival and the town's rich history, culture and heritage by offering guided walks of Rochdale's Heritage Trail. Led by a blue badge tour guide these walks take you on a path of discovery.

Free events and no need to book!

Rochdale Development Agency has brought together a broad range of historical venues from across the town centre to create a heritage trail of hidden gems, which are suited to all ages and backgrounds.

The trail starts at Rochdale Train Station, telling stories of people and places and how cultures have woven together over the years. Led by the tour guide, the trail will then lead us along Maclure Rd, taking in Fireground Museum, St John the Baptist RC Church and across the top of Drake Street, towards Rochdale Parish Church of St Chad. The trail then weaves its way back towards Drake St to take in Voltalab Sound Studios, Champness Hall and San Remo (definitely one of Rochdale's iconic places to visit) before making its way across to the Town Hall square and memorial gardens and across town to The Pioneers Museum, The Baum Public House and finally to conclude this trail, to The Church of St Mary-in-the-Baum.
gothic Town Hall.

The route will incorporate a number of key heritage sites and visitor attractions along the way and will take you up to the Pioneer's Museum and their pop-up temperance bar and The Baum public house for some of their locally brewed ale and then to St Mary's of The Baum Church.

Accessibility details

Rochdale Town Centre Heritage Trail will take audiences on a tour around the Town Centre's hidden gems with use of a map. This involves a lot of walking, so some audiences may choose to visit a chosen number of venues and activities by car, with parking at some of the venues included. A metrolink can also take you from the train station, down to the town centre in two minutes, where you can visit several other venues. Trains will be running over this weekend, and both buses and Metrolink trams are available too.

Additional information

Some of the venues along the route are open to the public on the days of the guided walks and you are free to look inside these or re-visit at a later date to when time permits and to be able to experience more of what they have to offer.
