How we are different from AP: Canopy & Campfires is not a registered Alternative Provision in the statutory sense, as we do not deliver an academic or curriculum-based model. Instead, we operate as a specialist therapeutic and nature-based intervention, accessed by schools in place of AP to support emotional regulation, relational development, re-engagement with education, and wider personal growth.
Where we align with AP: We work with the same cohorts who are typically referred to Alternative Provision and ensure full compliance with the safeguarding, monitoring, and quality standards expected of AP. Our programmes offer structured outcomes, attendance monitoring, and measurable progress in key developmental areas including confidence, resilience, self-esteem, engagement, and regulation.
How we fit: Our aim is to complement the local AP offer as a preventative and developmental pathway rather than to be classified as AP itself. We can be accessed either in place of Alternative Provision, or alongside it as part of a wider personalised support package, offering a therapeutic strand that supports emotional readiness, engagement, and personal growth while academic or curriculum-based needs are met through AP or school provision.
In summary: While we are not AP in the statutory sense, our model provides a high-quality, outcomes-focused service that aligns with AP standards and offers schools a credible, evidence-based alternative or complementary pathway within the local system.
We value our place within the local network and would welcome the opportunity to continue being listed on REACH. We’d love to remain accessible to schools and sit alongside the wider AP network who are working to improve outcomes for young people in the Borough.
If anyone would like to come and visit our camp to find out more about our services, how it works, our plans for growth, and how we develop our programmes and monitor our outcomes, feel free to arrange a visit. You'll be welcomed with a brew around the campfire any time!
